My Tribute To The Great One
Welcome to my tribute to the best player to ever play in the National Hockey League.
So I thought and I thought on how to explain "Wayne Gretzky", the big question is: where do I start? So I figured I'd start at the beginning....
Here is Wayne's rookie card, it was the '79-'80 season and of course he won the calder. Of course he played with the oilers.
Wayne had several good years with the oil, did I say good? I meant WICKED!! He won several Stanley Cups in the oilers dynasty of the mid 80's.
One of his best achievements as an oiler was scoring goal number 500.
Then Wayne was traded to the LA Kings, he was very emotional at this press conference, guess he didn't know at the time the fun and milestones he would reach with them.
With the kings Wayne played exceptional, earning several all-star game appearances, and taking them to the 1993 Stanley Cup final, only to lose to the Canadiens. Wayne was a key element in their run.
Here is when he beat Gordie Howe's all time goal mark scoring number 802. I would think this is one of his best records, personally I think this will never be broken. That was it for the Gretzky era in Los Angeles.
Then Wayne was traded to the St. Louis Blues in a package deal that saw several players go to LA. Wayne ws united with his friend Brett Hull, but his time here was short, he did put up Gtezky like numbers however.
Now it was off to Broadway for the Great One, now reunited with his best friend Mark Messier from their Oiler glory days. Wayne is in his 3rd season with the Rangers and is enjoying life there. Mark departed for Vancouver, now Wayne carries the load.
Over the years Wayne has represented his country a few times...especially the 1987 Canada Cup. Most recently at the Nagano Olympics, here he is with his friend Eric Lindros. They make a pretty good duo I think.
Here he is again, proudly wearing the maple leaf across his chest
